Dear Volunteer Candidate:
I am pleased to learn of your interest in volunteering at the Museum.
Volunteers are an integral part of the American Museum of Natural History. We currently have a volunteer staff of more than 1000 active volunteers who work either with the public or behind the scenes in our scientific and administrative departments. They share their time, abilities, knowledge, and enthusiasm by working with or explaining the Museum's superb collections to the public. The work is greatly appreciated by the Museum and is both rewarding and fulfilling to the volunteer. Some of the tasks performed by the volunteers who work with the public include staffing the information desks, acting as Explainers, in the exhibition halls, conducting guided tours of the Museum, and teaching children. Volunteers who work behind the scenes make use of their clerical, technical, or scientific skills.
As a Museum volunteer you will be subject to Museum regulations and the Volunteer Regulations and Procedures outlined by the Director of Volunteers. Click here to read the Volunteer Regulations and Procedures and obtain an application. Please read this page carefully before applying to the program.
When you complete the application, please submit it with a resume. You will be called for an interview if the present needs of the Museum seem to match your stated abilities and available time. Your interest in serving the Museum is most welcome.
Sincerely, Beverly Heimberg Assistant Director of Volunteer Services
