One of Hollywood's most popular box office stars, Robert Redford has garnered innumerable awards, including a recent Kennedy Center Honors award, which recognizes his contributions to American culture. Mr. Redford founded the nonprofit Sundance Institute in 1981 and is an active promoter and supporter of independent filmmakers in the United States. The Sundance Film Festival has become one of the world's premier venues for new independent films. Mr. Redford has starred in over 30 films, including The Sting, The Way We Were, All the President's Men, Out of Africa, and The Natural. Mr. Redford won the Academy Award for Best Director for Ordinary People, in 1980. He has since directed The Milagro Beanfield War, A River Runs through It, and Quiz Show, among others.
